10/29/2022 0 Comments Hand of fate tattoo parlor ithaca ny![]() ![]() My dad was joking around and told me to add "Viva la" in front of it which I actually did, since I felt that it showed how close my relationship is with my parents and how we joke around with each other (and also it's a great conversation starter when people ask why my tattoo has spanish and Korean!). My mom suggested 'parents' since the Korean characters for "mom and dad" (my 2nd idea) were short and unsightly and wouldn't fill the ribbon fully. Originally, I wanted to get my parents' names in Korean on the ribbon however, I don't speak/write/read Korean (it's a goal of mine to learn one day) so I consulted with my parents and they told me that it is considered disrespectful to have your parents' names casually written out like that in Korean characters, so we we discussed alternatives. The stack of books represents where I am academically (I am attending an arguably great university) and how I would not be here if it weren't for my mom nagging me to pursue extracurriculars or my dad staying up until 5 in the morning to help me finish a project that I procrastinated on. I felt that both of these characteristics fit my parents exactly. I chose an owl, because traditionally it represents wisdom and, also, owls are often viewed as guardian angels who watch over you from a distance. They were initially shocked that I wanted a tattoo, but were okay with it and helped me with the designīecause of these reasons and many others, I really wanted to dedicate the tattoo to them. They instilled in me such good morals and ethics They weren't on my case about academics, they just wanted me to try my best, but they were always there if I needed help they're agnostic, but always encouraged me to try religions and make my own decision) They always encouraged me to go explore and find out my own answers (ex. ![]() ![]() Despite being Korean immigrants, my parents broke every negative stereotype of "asian parents" (this is not an attack on all asian parents!): I am fortunate to have been raised by amazing parents and literally owe everything that I am to them. Before people fry me for jumping on the recent owl tattoo bandwagon, I was contemplating this design for the past year and really had no idea that owls had suddenly become popular, also it has a more personal meaning for me: I got the tattoo around January 3rd this year and it was my first tattoo. Just some background info: This picture was taken right after the tattoo was finished (4 hours straight) so the claws look slightly unclear due to swelling and blood, but it looks great and defined now that it's healed. ![]()
